About the Program

Huskies Compete is our combined 6th, 7th, and 8th grade competitive program. We build pride and commitment in every athlete and prepare them for high school cheer at Forest Hills Northern.

  • Independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit — not affiliated with the Forest Hills School District
  • One combined middle school team for grades 6, 7, and 8
  • Pipeline program to FHN High School cheerleading
  • MHSAA-sanctioned competition at the middle school level
  • Sideline season is where foundational skills are built before athletes step into competitive

Athletes complete sideline season first — that’s where foundational skills are built. Competitive fees are separate from the sideline registration fee.

What Every Family Needs to Know

Competitions

Teams compete at invitationals throughout West Michigan, typically on weekends. Full schedule shared at the start of the season.

MHSAA Format

Round 2 & Round 3

At the middle school level, MHSAA competitive cheer does not include Round 1. Huskies Compete competes in Round 2 and Round 3 at every invitational. Score sheets are reviewed with athletes after every event.

Round 2 — Compulsory
Required Skills

Teams perform 4 required skills judged on execution, timing, and unison by a three-judge panel.

Round 3 — 2nd Cheer
Full Routine

Teams perform their complete choreographed routine. Judged on stunts, pyramids, tumbling, jumps, motions, and crowd appeal.

How It Unfolds

Register for Competitive Season

Athletes who have completed sideline season register for Huskies Compete. The skills built during sideline carry directly into competitive.

Pre-Season
Preseason Evaluation

Coaches assess each athlete’s skill level.

Pre-Season
Clinics & Choreography

Athletes sharpen skills and learn the competitive routine.

In Season
Full Practices & Stunt Clinics

4–5 day practice weeks with tumbling built in. Stunt clinics run throughout the season to keep building skills.

Competition Season
Take the Mat

6–8 West Michigan invitationals. Round 2 and Round 3. Score sheets drive what we train next.

Who Can Join
  • Grades 6, 7, and 8 in the FHN area
  • Sideline season is where foundational skills are built — athletes register for competitive after completing sideline
  • No prior competitive experience required
  • Full season commitment required from athlete and family
